Van Shelves

How do you add shelves in a van? Use the two places a van wastes: the space above the cab, and the top of the walls. A headliner shelf turns the space over the driver and passenger seats into a storage platform with a lip that keeps things in place, and overhead shelf kits run along the walls for the things you reach for every day. Timber's shelf kits are Baltic birch plywood, cut for the Sprinter, the Transit or the ProMaster, and come with instructions and hardware, ready for you to paint, stain or upholster.

Headliner shelf or overhead shelves?

Start with the headliner shelf: it uses the space over the cab that the rest of the build leaves empty. Add overhead shelves, single or triple, along the walls for open storage you can see at a glance. If you want doors, see our overhead cabinet kits.

Finishing and fitting

The shelves arrive as natural wood. Finish them with an exterior-grade finish or Rubio Monocoat oil, because the temperature and moisture inside a van swing widely. The overhead shelves work best mounted on our structural assembly kit.

Every shelf kit, with its price and the van it fits, is below. For cabinets, galleys and the rest of the storage we make, see all cabinets and shelves.

Van Shelf Questions

Where do shelves go in a camper van?

Two places most builds use: above the cab, where a headliner shelf turns the unused space over the driver and passenger seats into storage, and high on the walls, where overhead shelf kits hold the things you reach for every day.

What are the shelves made of?

Baltic birch plywood, which is strong, durable and has a real wood finish. The headliner shelves have a lip so things stay put on the road.

Do they come finished?

No. They arrive as natural wood, ready to paint, stain or upholster. Use an exterior-grade finish or Rubio Monocoat oil: the temperature and moisture inside a van swing widely.

How do they install?

Each kit comes with installation instructions and hardware, and the overhead shelves work best with our structural assembly kit. Instructions are linked by QR code in the box and on each product page.

Which shelf fits my van?

Each kit is cut for one van, and its name says which: Sprinter, Transit or ProMaster. The Sprinter headliner shelf fits any Sprinter from 2007 on, in a 2007–2018 or a 2019-and-newer version.

How long does shipping take?

Shelf kits are made in 4–14 business days, then take up to 4 business days in transit.
