Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about Timber Van Kits — what fits your van, how the kits go together, and what happens after you order.

General

What's the difference between a Timber Conversion and a DIY Conversion Kit?

A DIY Conversion Kit is a complete, made-to-order van interior — bed platform, galley kitchen, water and electrical systems, storage and insulated paneling — CNC-cut in our Boulder, Colorado facility, labeled and flat-packed to your door with step-by-step instructions. You install it in your own van. A Timber Conversion is the same Timber interior installed in your van by our team at our Boulder facility: you drop the van off and pick it up finished.

Start with the Camper Van Kits page for the kit and the Camper Van Conversions page for a professional install.

Which vans do your kits fit? Do you have kits for low or medium roof vans?

Our DIY Conversion Kit is built for high roof vans only: Mercedes Sprinter 144" and 170" High Roof (2007+) and Ford Transit 148" and 148" EL High Roof (2015+). A high roof gives full standing headroom, and the panels, cabinets and galley are cut to its curvature. We do not sell kits for low or medium roof vans.

Individual Timber components — overhead cabinets and shelves, galley kits, panel kits, HexPly floors, insulation and more — are also made for Ram ProMaster high roof vans. See the Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit and Ram ProMaster collections.

Are your products vehicle-specific? Will a product for a regular-length van fit an extended-length van?

Most Timber wood products are cut for a specific make, roof height and wheelbase, because the curvature and rib spacing differ between vans and between lengths. The Structural Assembly for Sprinter panels, for example, comes in a 144" version and a 170" version that are not interchangeable, while our Sprinter Bed and Wheel Well Cabinets fit both the 144" and the 170". Seats, water tanks, L-Track and most accessories fit Sprinters, Transits and ProMasters alike.

Every product page lists its compatibility. Check it and choose the chassis and year option that matches your van before you order. If you are unsure, contact us with your van's year, make, model and wheelbase.

Where can I find the dimensions and weight of a product?

Every product page lists them under Specifications — overall length, width, height and weight — and the packed weight and box or pallet size under Shipping. Several products also link a dimensions drawing in their Instructions & Hardware List. For a full DIY Conversion Kit, the Packing List shows everything that ships.

My kit didn't come with printed instructions. Where do I find them?

Our instructions are digital. Each shipment includes QR codes that open the instructions for the components in the box, and every product page carries its instructions and hardware list as documents near the bottom of the page. For a full DIY Conversion Kit, the step-by-step manual is emailed once your payment is received — you can read the Preview Instructions before you order.

If you cannot find the document you need, email info@timbervankits.com with your order number.

How difficult is the install? Can I do it myself?

Our kits are designed to be assembled and installed by the owner. Every piece arrives CNC-cut, labeled and flat-packed with its hardware, and the instructions take you through each component step by step; the Preview Instructions on the Camper Van Kits page show you what to expect before you order. Each component is also sold on its own, so you can take the build one system at a time.

If you would rather not build it yourself, a Timber Conversion is the same interior installed by our team in Boulder.

What wood do you use, and how should I finish it?

Baltic birch plywood — a multi-ply hardwood laminate chosen for its strength and durability. Cabinets and the bed system are 3/4" Baltic birch, wall and ceiling panels are 1/4" Baltic birch, and floors are 1/2" HexPly (plywood with an anti-slip hexagon phenolic overlay).

Everything ships as unfinished natural wood and needs sanding before you finish it. Panels are meant to be painted or upholstered; cabinets and the galley can be painted, stained or oiled. Because temperature and moisture inside a van swing widely, use an exterior-grade finish or Rubio Monocoat oil. Natural variation in grain, color and texture, and the round patches used in manufacturing, are part of the material and are not defects.

Prefer a finished interior? The kit's Finish upgrade delivers the cabinetry in white, Slate Green or Winter Blue laminate.

Are your products in stock? How long will my order take to arrive?

Nothing ships from a shelf — everything we make is made to order in our Boulder, CO facility. Individual parts and components take 4–14 business days to make, and a full DIY Conversion Kit about 4 weeks. Shipping then takes up to 4 business days, depending on location. Products from other brands show their own timeline on the product page.

Can you customize a product, or add and remove parts from a kit?

The DIY Conversion Kit is configured in Build & Price: you choose your chassis, your upgrades (electrical, water, heater, fan, finish and more) and your finish, and your estimate lists exactly what ships — items not on the approved estimate are not included. Every component in the kit is also sold on its own, so you can start with the pieces you need and add the rest later.

For anything beyond those options, contact us before you order.

Is everything shipped together?

Not always. Small components ship by parcel; large items such as the galley, bed system, panel kits and seats ship by freight on a pallet to reduce the risk of damage in transit. A full kit may leave in more than one shipment, and we send carrier and tracking details as each shipment leaves.

Freight carriers deliver to residential addresses, but a commercial or business address usually gives easier freight access and fewer delays. Please inspect every package before you sign for it — see My item arrived damaged below.

What is your return and exchange policy?

Returns and exchanges are accepted within 30 days of delivery for items that are unused, in their original packaging and in the same condition you received them — made-to-order parts included. Sale items and paper templates are not eligible. You pay return shipping and a 15% restocking fee unless the return is due to a defect or our error. Full Ship Kits (a complete DIY conversion kit) are made to order for your van and are not returnable, so no restocking fee applies to them; their 90-day limited warranty covers them instead. Orders can be cancelled within 24 hours of purchase at no charge.

To start a return, contact customer service at orders@timbervankits.com or 720-282-5075; once approved, fill out the Return & Exchange Form. Full details: Refund Policy.

My item arrived damaged, or parts are missing. What do I do?

All orders are insured through the carrier, so inspect every package before you sign. If a package arrives visibly damaged, photograph it and refuse it. If it looks fine, open and inspect the contents while the driver is present — you are entitled to — and refuse the package if you find shipping damage inside. A concealed-damage claim made after the carrier has left must be filed within 5 days of delivery.

If you open a package and find a manufacturer defect or missing hardware, contact us at orders@timbervankits.com or 720-282-5075 with your order number and photos, and we will replace the items at no cost. Natural wood has flaws and variations; these are not manufacturer defects.

Do you ship to Hawaii, Alaska or Canada?

Yes. Orders of $750 or more shipping within the lower 48 ship free. Orders under $750, and orders to Alaska, Hawaii or Canada, carry a flat-rate shipping charge calculated at checkout. For Canada there are no additional customs duties or taxes — the price at checkout is the final price. See our Shipping Policy.

How soon can I schedule a Timber Conversion, and how long does it take?

Our production schedule changes constantly, so the best way to find out which dates are open is to contact us at 720-282-5075 or info@timbervankits.com, or start with Build & Price on the Camper Van Conversions page. Build times are currently up to two weeks, depending on the options selected.

What warranty do you offer?

Three warranties, each counted from delivery or hand-over:

  • Parts and components we make, made-to-order items included: a 30-day limited warranty from delivery against defects in materials and workmanship.
  • Full Ship Kits (a complete DIY conversion kit): a 90-day limited warranty from delivery on everything we make for the kit, made-to-order components included.
  • Timber Conversions installed by our team: a Craftsmanship Warranty of 1 year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first, from the day your van is handed over — the workmanship of the install, with Timber keeping the first right to repair; contact Titan Vans Service.

A manufacturer defect or missing part is replaced at no cost. Third-party components such as heaters, fans, fridges, seats and appliances carry their manufacturers' warranties. Parts and components can be returned within 30 days of delivery; Full Ship Kits are not returnable.

Full terms and how to make a claim: Warranty.

Cabinets

Do the cabinets come pre-built?

No. They arrive flat-packed, CNC-cut and labeled, with all hardware and step-by-step instructions, and you assemble them. The hardware is what we use in our own builds: Blum soft-close hinges, solid stainless-steel marine rim latches and, on the overhead cabinets, gas struts that lift both doors. Cabinets ship as unfinished Baltic birch, ready to paint, stain or oil.

Do I need your Overhead Cabinet Structural Assembly? Can I use Timber cabinets with another company's panels?

Our overhead cabinets and shelves are designed around the Overhead Cabinet Structural Assembly for your van — steel pieces that run the length of the van so you can place cabinetry anywhere along it without hunting for a structural beam — and their curvature matches our panel kits. They are not directly compatible with factory headliners.

If you are pairing them with another company's structure or panels, contact us with photos of your van before you order.

Can I add more cabinets later?

Yes. Overhead cabinets and shelves are sold individually for each van — single, double and triple cabinet kits and single and triple shelf kits for Sprinter, Transit and ProMaster — so you can start with one and add more along the Structural Assembly later. Browse Cabinetry.

Kitchen Galley

What size fridge fits the galley?

The galley is made to fit the Isotherm Cruise 130 fridge, sold separately. If you do not need a fridge now, order the galley without one and adapt later by removing the shelves and using the large door space.

Which vans does the galley fit, and how does it ship?

There is a galley kit for Sprinter, Transit and ProMaster high roof vans; each is cut to match the curvature of our panel kit for that van, so order the one for your chassis. The galley ships by freight on a pallet to protect it in transit. Dimensions and weight are on each product page — the Sprinter galley, for example, is 45" long, 20.88" wide and 34.9" from the floor to the countertop, and weighs about 90 pounds.

What is the galley made of?

Baltic birch plywood cabinetry with a black Formica countertop, solid stainless-steel marine rim latches and Blum soft-close hinges, CNC-cut for your van. Like all our wood products it ships unfinished, ready for paint, stain or an exterior-grade oil. Water components — tanks, pump and lines — are sold separately as the DIY Kitchen Plumbing Kit or the 20 Gallon Water System.

Bed

How does the Bi-Slide bed work?

The bed system is two wheel well cabinets with a Bi-Slide bed frame between them: half of the platform slides into the other half, so the bed takes up half the floor when you are not sleeping and opens for the night. The wheel well cabinets have latching compartments and open cubbies with bungee cords, and are sized for our 20-gallon wheel well water tanks and portable power stations. It is 3/4" Baltic birch with Blum soft-close hinges and stainless marine rim latches, flat-packed with hardware and instructions.

Which vans does the bed fit? Is it longer in an extended-length van?

The Sprinter Bed and Wheel Well Cabinets fit both the 144" and the 170" High Roof — the same bed for both lengths — and there is a version for Ford Transit high roof vans. For the Sprinter bed, the critical dimension is the space between the two wheel well cabinets, which must be between 43.125" and 45.125".

Is a mattress included?

A mattress is optional. It is a 5"-thick, low-profile mattress with three soft upper layers and a cool-gel memory foam insert, made to fit the Bi-Slide frame and to stack when the bed is contracted. Add it on the bed product page.

What size water tank fits in the wheel well cabinet?

The cabinets are designed around our 20-gallon wheel well water tanks — the 20 Gal. Water Tank (50" × 19" × 11") and the 20 Gallon Slim Wheel Well Water Tank. Both are naturally baffled, reversible for either side of the van, and put the water's weight over the rear axle. The tanks are not compatible with dually trucks.

Seats

How do your seats install?

It depends on the seat. The Foldaway Chair and Foldaway Bench are fixed installations that fold flat against the wall; they mount on the Fenton Mounting Plate, a 100% bolt-in, FMVSS-tested plate (no welding) that installs directly onto the van's OEM chassis floor. The Single and Double Captain's Seats install on L-Track with BraunAbility Seat Lockers, either fixed or removable. The Folding Bed Seat comes with its own swivel mounting base.

Can a child car seat or booster fit in your seats?

The Foldaway Chair, Foldaway Bench and Captain's Seats are listed with child restraints and 3-point harnesses with switchable retractors, and the Folding Bed Seat has ISOFIX-compatible child-seat anchors. Always follow your car seat manufacturer's instructions, and check the seat's product page for its restraint details before you order.

Are your seats vehicle-specific, and what are they covered in?

No — our seats fit Sprinters, Transits and ProMasters. The Foldaway Chair, Foldaway Bench and Captain's Seats are covered in black leatherette with panel stitching; the Folding Bed Seat is Nappa leather.
